Dizzy Vac Unit Issues On Mi16

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am new to the forum, and this is my first Peugeot.

Last week I got a Miami blue 205 1.9 GTI with a Mi16 conversion running twin 45 webers.

Love the car, drives fantastic!

So the other night I was doing a few bits when I noticed the Vac unit was very loose on the dizzy with only a single screw holding it in place.

Naturally I tightened it up.

The next morning I started it & it was running badly all of a sudden. The only thing I had done that could cause this was tighten the vac unit.

I read afterwards that they are left loose on this conversion with the vac pipe blocked off (which mine is). So after reading this I loosened it back off.

Today, out in the car, giving it a little bit... Suddenly, pops, bangs and no power.

Killed the engine and coasted to the side.

Popped the bonnet & noticed the Vac unit has decided it doesn't enjoy being attached to the dizzy anymore.

My first question is, should this be left 'loose'?

Second is, if it is left loose, how do you ensure it doesn't work too loose and fall off?

Thread lock?

Thanks in advance.

Rich

sounds like a right bodge and cant imagine why you would have the vac capsule loose.

Well this is what I thought & why I tightened the vac unit, but I am sure I read about someone loosening the vac unit?

I know the carbs were recently set up, so maybe it was set up with this loose, and then I have tightened it up & that's why it's running rough with it tight, as it now needs setting up again with the Vac unit as it should be?
