Hello, Picked Up My First Gti Today, Now I Need Some Parts And Advice

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. Picked up my first GTI today, great drive home. Ill try and get some photos on here soon. I am after a bit of advice please. The rear windscreen wiper and heated rear window don't work, bit of a coincidence so I thought it might be a loose connection in that area or something? any advice would be great. I also need a new gearknob, new passenger side rear window seal, as it's leaking and a rear parcel shelf. Does anyone know where I can get these parts or does anyone have any of the above.

All your help and advice is much appreciated, i'm sure I will need more so apologies in advance.

All the best

Joe

Might be worth checking the wiring where it passes from car to tailgate. Over time the wires snap due to being bent where the tailgate gets opened and closed.

Congrats on the purchase. Good luck finding a new window seal though - they've been nfp for a while. Best bet is either to try the "warm in water & stretch" technique with your existing seal or look for a decent condition used one (although it's likely that will also have shrunk over the years).

well done on your purchase.

wiring - I take it you've checked the fuses (fuse 3 and 8)- may be worth checking the earth connection block inside the NS quarter panel and accessed from the boot, the tailgate loom is also connected in the same place so you will need to get access there for checking the wiring

There is a member on here called Farmer, who is very good at locating no longer available parts.

Think you mean tailgate window seal/trim Miles, JoeWright means rear quarter window seals.

Thanks for all the replies people. Went to Peugeot today. They didn't have anything. Not good. Scrap yard and ebay I guess.

64 quid seems so expensive. Might have to swallow it if I can't find one. Hopefully i'll find a shelf. I have one but it hasn't got the bits on the side that fits into the slots just behind the seats and is missing the little bit on the boot that the string attaches too. Thought it was easier to get the whole thing

If you think that is expensive for the gear knob, wait until you try to replace all the red trim and get some Siem driving lights with surrounds.
