Gear rods, nylon will have worn out in the sockets, also the linkage bushes in the selector arm. Baker bushes and mounts do a uprated replacement that helps reduce play.

Check the two points where the gear rods are bolted to the subframe are still done up tight before you buy any parts.

As Jaskherer has said, worn linkages normally just mean the rods pop off, not give a sloppy change. The Ball joinb bolted to the subframe is the worst thing for this, so a new nut and washer fix's it or worst case a new joint, washer and nut (In my shop), The quadrant or 'L' linkage has a smaller effect on it but some new bronze bush's or std plastic ones which will last another 20 yr's for a couple of quid is the best option unless a Race car
