B6J Engine Code?!

Recommended Posts

idoari

Hi,

i recently purchase a 205 GTI 1.6 (1992) and in the car reg. says the engine code is "B6J". I know that 205 GTI 1.6 has only the "B6E" and the "B6D" codes so is that a new recent model (since it's 1992 maybe?!).

i have 1.6 ECU model 0280000340 and the engine code plate was removed (the leftover pop rivet still inside) as the picture shows.

i found on the buttom front of the engine near the flywheel evident of the engien code B6J.

is there any other place the engine code is writen?

also i have on the engine slightly uprated fuel injectors model 0280150703 not the 0280150211 (the only difference is in slightly higher fuel capacity).

here's a picture of the engine

my vin number is VF320CB6224949982

chassis number OVF320CB62249499820

what's going on? do i really have B6J engine?

Ido

I don't know, but that's a nifty mod to stop the battery exiting through the front grille under hard braking

looks like it has AC, which I didn't think was ever used on a 1.6 engine and ever more odd for it to have some idle solenoid switch which as far as I know the Jetronic ecu has no capability to control I believe?!

30 April 1992 is the build date

yes.... i returning it to stock condition and all the dodgy mod will be removed. the engine doesn't look like it now.

yes. it has AC but someone along the way remove the compressor and the condenser (to loose weight maybe) . so all i have left is some of the pipe work the dryer and some wiring and the idle solenoid.

it has another AC control unit under the dash i think that is maybe connects to it. but more simple is to connect the idle solenoid one connector to ground and one to the compressor (that what a car electrician told me anyway).since israel is part of peugeot "hot weather countries" , the AC is a standard here in all the models.

Maybe that answers the question then, if it was built to a different spec for hot weather countries.

I guess you'll have the benefit of less rust as well?

can someone tell me what are the visible diffrences between B6E and B6D engines?

if i have the older water pump (without the "wall" in the side) and i have the older timing belt tensioner and 113 teeth belt what is that saying about my engine? is it saying anything about with one i have the B6E or the B6D or just the build date?
