205 Gti 1.6 Wiring Mess

Recommended Posts

Hi,

i'm new here and i'm restoring my 205 GTI 1.6 1992 to original condition. ;)

my engine loom is a mess! my car has a lot of owners since new and one of the owners replaced the engine to something else and then put back the original engine. when he swap the engine, he cuts a lot of wires from the original loom and now all of my speedo gauges doesn't work (the oil temp ,oil pressure and the water temp doesn't work . the speedo itself , the rev and ther fuel gauge are working fine).

i have the "haynes workshop manual" and i looked here http://www.205gtidrivers.com/articles/m-instrumentpanel.html for help but i need more help.

here's my car.

I took out the engine loom and solder all the broken wires that i found (using haynes manual) .

i also remove the instrument cluster and took almost the whole dashboard apart to get to the wires.

let's start with the engine loom

so i have a broken light blue wire near the ECU with no other wire broken near it.

IMG_1002_Copy.jpg

it connects to the wire junction here (that connects to the SAD sensor, the ECU and brown 7 pins connecor)

i can't find out what this two relay does. they are near the ECU (i think they replace the tachymetric relay maybe, one of them connected to the MAF,ECU,TPS and the injectos also to the coil and the other connects to the 6 pins brown connectos near the ECU to pins 2 and 6)

near the ignition module, i have unconnected connector. it connects to the 6 pin brown connector near the ECU (pin 4)

i have two broken wires (purple and brown). they connect to the 9 pins brown connector and from there i traced them to the gray fuse box under the steering wheel to connector D.

i have 7 pins brown connector on the engine loom.

IMG_1006_Copy.jpg

it connects to a connector and i don't know what every wire does. can you help?

now let move to the interior.

i have two connectors that i don't know what they does.

one of them connects to the heater and i don't know where the other wire connects.

i have another connector near the dashboard switches (fog light switch, hazard light switch,...) - it looks like maybe the air vent illumination but i'm not sure.

IMG_1043_Copy.jpg

is this the AC adjustment connector? i almost sure it is.

IMG_1045_Copy.jpg

i have three relays inside the fusebox near the left side headlamp. what each of them does?

IMG_1042_Copy.jpg

what is this fuses for? (i took the cover off)

IMG_1038_Copy.jpg

loose connector near the brakes master cylinder. what is it for?

IMG_1039_Copy.jpg

broken wire from the engine fusebox. where it's leading?

IMG_1041_Copy.jpg

what this sensor for ? it's on the back of the engine (under the exhaust manifold) bolted to the sump.

IMG_1036_Copy.jpg

which is the water temp sensor and with is the what temp switch?

IMG_1026_Copy.jpg

is this the reverse light swtich, right? it bolted to the gearbox.

IMG_1023_Copy.jpg

a car electrician told me that the cylinder unit is a device that increase engine RPM when the AC working. can you confirm?

IMG_1027_Copy.jpg

i know this two , are oil sensors and the big one is the oil pressure sensor what is the other one(on the left) ?

IMG_1022_Copy.jpg

my engine number plate is removed i think. it supposed to be here i think right?

IMG_1034_Copy.jpg

in the car papers the engine number is "B6J" and i know that 1.6 GTI has only "B6E" and "B6D". i found the engine code writen on the engine block near the flywheel. is there other way to confirm my engine code? i have a 1.6 ECU (0280000340).

sorry if i make a few english spelling mistake, i from Israel... :)

thanks

The little one on back of the sump is oil temp. The big round sensor on front of the block is oil pressure gauge. The little one next to it is pressure switch. The coolant temp level and switch are near the distributor. I use trial and error for those. As I can never remember. I'll help with the rest later if no one else posts

The purple + brown wires from the 9-pin connector are for the reverse light switch which is the white 2-pin plug on the gearbox.

The cylinder on the throttle is for the AC as you say.

The 2-pin plug near the master cylinder is (I think) not used unless you have ABS.
