Are The Current 1.6T Engines Tu Rcz 208 Etc

Recommended Posts

Hiya guys

Can anyone tell me. Would one of the 200hp RCZ / 208 gti engines go into a TU based 205's.

Was thinking specifically a 205 rallye as we're looking at doing a 205 turbo track car?

Cheers J

specifically its an EP6CDTX, also called a "Price" engine, architecture is similar to an alloy block tu, but that's about where it ends, will it go in a 205? of course, we've seen C20LET's and EVO engines in 205's, and V6's etc.

massively complex engine management systems, loads of sensors and actuators.

also has its fair share of issues namely slipping camshaft sprockets and worn out timing chains, probably more.

Cheers for that.

Would aftermarket management help or probably easier to look at other options?

Surely not worth the hassle for 200bhp. Tuning potential, but how strong is the standard engine.

Apart from the common niggles that effect these (As WP has already mentioned) I gather they must be pretty strong - There is a 270bhp version of it in the RCZ R!

I have wondered about putting one of these in my 205, except on my Emerald management to get rid of all the potentially unnecessary emissions / standard stuff on them.

There are no emissions specific sensors bar the typical twin lambda systems found on everything from the early 00's onwards and a charcoal canister.

from what I can gather:

dual variable cam timing, so two cam sensors two cam solenoids, one crank sensor, THREE map sensors, one MAF, one Fly by wire throttle and pedal, 4 direct fire ignition coils, turbo control solenoid.

direct injection hence high pressure cam driven fuel pump and pressure sensor.

RCZ variant has uprated turbo and forged pistons.

Sandy

Very small main bearings, iffy cam chain drive, pressed steel rockers, built to a price generally. It's not a great basis for a performance engine, the EW is a much better way to start.

Only echoing, Tiny crank and bearings, endless timing chain and guide issues. Inlet carbon issues. Have seen broken valve springs and cracked pistons on early engines. Poor sealing, always leaking oil from somewhere. There is a french guy who works for psa that did a ep6dts into a 106.
