Recommended Posts

dobboy

Can someone tell me a decent/suitable threadlock manufacturer/type?

I'm looking for it for my flywheel, gearbox, gear box mount stud thing..... and other things.

Last time i bought some there was virtually feck all in the tube.

Is the stuff i'm look at on amazon appropriate?

Bond-It A70 Studlock 50ml

for £5.60 delivered.

you don' need much and you want threadlock not stud lock, just head to your local motorfactor, they'll probably have loctite on the shelf.

Good call WP, never thought about that. (I grudge paying 30-40% more for delivery from the net)

eg RS components Loctite cost £4.95 delivery on a bottle that only costs £8.09+ the dreaded

I recently bought some threadlock and like you dobboy noticed that the bottle was only half full, the guy in the shop said they're all like that as it cures anerobically, ie without oxygen, so therefore the bottle has to have an air gap or it would start to cure in the bottle.

This is good info:

I have a big bottle of blue that I've had for years. Still a third left and use it loads.

Also have a tube of red which I bought for sticking a speedo magnet on.

Find a decent local motorfactors and buy it from them.

The mounting pin i took out my gearbox had blue threadlock.

It looks like Blue is a standard colour that manufacturers use for Medium strength?

I used some green stuff from screwfix on my first engine flywheel bolts, when I took off the flywheel bolts it looked like I'd used chewing gum (soft and gooey), suffice to say I've never used it again. Used Loctite from then on with no problems.

I keep five bottles of Loctite on hand at all time. Love the stuff. Depends on your application. You can look them up to see if they suit your purposes. My favourites are:

262

243

222

549

620

Thanks PeterT.

Had a squint at the descriptions/data sheets,

I intend to use for Flywheel, Diff CW, clutch cover, and gearbox mount/stud.

Does the 243 sound about right for being the most suitable for me?

The 243 is medium strength and is what is used for 95% of jobs in the dealers i work at - very occasionally 262 is used.

But they aren't known for studying data sheets, just grab whatever comes to hand first.
