S16/gti6 Engine Wiring Loom

Recommended Posts

ASBGTi

Morning all,

I have been trawling forums for the answer to this but just wanted some clarity.

I want to replace the engine wiring loom that's on my 2.0 s16 engine in my 205, am I right in saying that the loom from a gti6 will also fit? (After fitting to the brown plugs of course). Can't find an s16 loom anywhere! I also heard murmurs that the loom from an 8v xsi will fit too??

Cheers!

no, only the s16/2.0 mi16 loom will work.

no other ecu will have the acav facility, half the plugs are different to the gti6 and the 8v.

I have the ECU allready.

I was told only a week ago that an mi16 loom would'nt work on my engine. I had the chance to buy one and didn't....

A lot of info on the 306 forum indicates that the 6 loom will work??

I don't know what info you've seen but that is not the case.

rfy engine (s16 & 2.0 mi16)

uses two ignition amplifiers, 4 3pin ignition coils, onboard map sensor, 3wire idle valve. acav solenoid.

plus the usual tps, tdc and cts iat and a cam sensor.

rfs (gti6 vts)

4x 2wire direct fire ignition coils, external map sensor, 4wire icv plus similar sensors as above.

so as you can see, rather different.

I totally understand which is why I was questioning it.

Maybe I'm just not understanding it correctly. I'll try and find the info.

You mean this thread - http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=161332&hl= ?

You can't use a 1.9 Mi16 loom on an S16.

However a 2.0 Mi16 is the same engine as a 2.0 S16 so you can use a 2.0 Mi16 loom.

There's nothing wrong with it per say but looking at some of it, I'm not happy with the way it's been done. If I do it to the standard I'm happy with I will feel much better! the search continues.....

Cool, why dont you get yours out and sort it, renew conduits etc

You mights save yourself a bit of hassle as the gti6 loom has a few versions with oil related sensors in different places, not sure if the same thing happened with S16.

It's an option. It's works fine apart from a the oil pressure, oil temp and the speedo. All easily rectified it would seem.

By thought process was, if I get a loom and convert it myself or by Miles, I know it will be 100% right. Maybe I'm over doing it!!

Doesnt sound as though theres anything wrong with the loom, sounds more like only the minimal was done to make it run by whoever converted it.

Have you got an 8v oil temp, and oil pressure switch fitted, to an oil pressure adapter?

And for the speedo you prob just need an elect/mech speedo drive fitted.

That should be easy to sort out, if u can work a multimeter?

Do u have a rev counter adapter kit fitted? Or has someone been at the back of the clocks?

I've got the converter the other day just need to fit it. Can work a multimeter indeed, just finding the time to start pulling the dash apart and chasing wires about the place!

Going to get the mechanical side sorted first, got the exhaust to fit, oil cooler and brakes to finish. Once the car is back on its wheels I can tackle the wiring. Oh the joys!!
