No Marking On Piston Tops?

Recommended Posts

benny205mi16

Hello,

I am about to take my pistons to have the valve pockets deepened (0.5mm) only the inlet side. I have read about pistons having an arrow and Dist on the top to point towards the flywheel end, but my pistons have no markings? Does it therefore mean they can be fitted any way? And I can get either side deepened?

It's a 1.9 mi16 engine.

Any help would be great as I am about to take them to the machine shop.

Thank you

Ben

Dist markings should point towards the timing belt end, not the flywheel. They're present on 8Vs but not Mi16s IIRC.

Only the 8v pistons have it in my experience.

Which makes sense as the Mi pistons are symmetrical whereas the 8v ones aren't.

Great,

Thank you for the quick response.

Just putting the kids in the car before setting off, so your timing is spot on.

Thank you again

Ben

Check the rods, the bearing notch is on a certain side, which specifically escapes me now but its in the haynes manual

I distinctly remember D6C pistons having a DIST arrow because that's how I realized that I had some of my rods in backwards... On top of that, inlet cutouts are larger than exhaust cutouts on a standard piston, you'll be able to tell from the distance between them, which is smaller on the inlet side.

Thank you, I call the machine shop and make sure the right side is done.
