Tyres!

Recommended Posts

I know this topic has been covered a thousand times, I have searched but I can't find any resent topics.

I'm looking for a set of 185 55 15 tyres for a std road car, something that will be a good all rounder bit can be pushed in the corners when playing. I have heard. About yoko paradas, are these good. What works with 205's. I currently have Pirelli p6000. I hate them. That is all.

That is an understatement. I had noticed the same and had a few near incidents.

A few weeks ago i went on a damp track with them and was skating about with them until the track dried, was fairly controlled right enough and no fear of damage.

On the dry they are very good though imo.

Next ones for me are Toyo R1R's.

Alistair,

I asked the same question a while back and there was some very good advice, in the end I went for Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance 185/55R15 82 V about £64 ea.

I also have a set of Michelins here that I bought in the group buy and never used, I think they were about £120 for a set of 4 if your interested.

paradas unavailable in 185 size. love my toyo t1r in 185 and happy with wet grip. lot more choice in 195/50 but in my opinion lookt too wide on the rim.

Our Targa rallying only permits road going tyres. We were generally very happy with T1R's with the only frustration being grip in the wet. We're trying to stick to a sensible budget so the likes of R1R's were out (plus not sure how much better they'd be in the wet anyway).

We tried the very reasonibly priced Uniroyal Rainsport 3's and are loving them! Seem a little thin on the side wall but they're fantastic in the wet compared to the T1R's, and every bit as good in dry grip, grip on the loose stuff, and over all wear. Available in 185 55 15 too.

I was looking at Pirelli p1's as on paper they look good, and the Toyo R1R's. Thanks Paul I will read through it. I didn't come across your thread.

I don't mind Michelins, they are good if you do massive mileage. In the end they end up cracking as they never wear out!

Thanks for that ATK, I will steer clear if them.

I want to stay 185 as I think 195 just look too big and there are a descent selection in standard size.

Davy, the R1R's are immense in the wet when heated up from what ive seen. Malc has them and i watch through my fingers the speed he corners at in the rain.

Ah ok. If I'm feeling flush sometime then we might try the R1R's out.

I got a price for toyo t1-rs at £60 per tyre which I thought was a good price. I have yet to look inline at sites such as camskill.

The R1R's treat pattern looks a bit fast road/track related for a std road car. If I had a modified car I would look at these further.

Avoid Toyo T1R's - they are the Proxes I mention above (full name is Toyo Proxes T1R's)

Another vote for the Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance from me, look at the tyre ratings, A rated wet grip, the Toyo Proxies are E!!!!! Goodyears are 2 quid a tyre extra, a no brainer for my money.

Ok Tom I will look at prices and reviews thanks.

I have looked at reviews but tyre choice is a minefield.

Sorry ATK I was getting confused between toyo proxies and yoko paradas. Il forget about either and concentrate on other brands.

I have heard good reviews about the avon zv5 too.

I have the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance on my 406 - I'm tempted to get a set for the 205. They are very very impressive. Don't let the "efficientgrip" part of the name put you off. Grip in the wet is frankly amazing and good in the dry also. Braking in wet and dry conditions is great. The only downside is a slightly soft sidewall which makes initial turn-in feel a little sluggish, but once you are used to them you don't notice it. Also it probably wouldnt be so much of an issue on a light car such as the 205.

I've heard good things about Hankook Evos, either the S1 or V12.

I just switched to Efficient Grip on the Skoda and so far so good.

Excellent in the wet and a lot quieter than the Conti's which they replaced; mpg slightly improved too.
