Rear Quarter Panels.

Recommended Posts

matty205xs

hi, does anyone know where I can get the rear quarter panels from for a 3 door 205 1.4 xs as my passenger one at the bottom is rotten and keeps bubbling so im planning on getting a new panel if there are any and cut out the rotten section on my car and replace it with the new metal, also has anyone attempted this before and if so do you have a pics of it or any advice?

thanks matt.

I've never done it but it's been done before on the 205 and probably just about every other car model ever made to some extent.

There's two options really...

1) Find a standard 205 going for scrap/being broken up and see if you can cut the area you need from the shell. The person scrapping the car may or may not be happy to allow it. They may or may not be happy to cut from the shell for you. You could also be waiting a while to find something ideal as a result.

2) Create a template and then cut a fresh piece of steel (making sure it's the correct thickness and spec) according to the template but a touch smaller and bend it into shape.

Option 2 can take much longer due to shaping of the area depending on how much has to be done. Option 1, however, will need to be stripped of paint before fitting. Either way, it'll take some welding skills and decent access in order to tack the new piece in, seam weld, grind the welds down perfectly and then paint the new area.

Whichever you would choose, you need to weigh up if it's worth doing at all.

right ok thanks, im not entirely sure if it worth it or not but all I know is that the longer I leave it the worse its getting, iv already tried to redo it many times through out owning the car and it just keeps on reappearing, either that or I can try and sand it down again and try and get rid of any visible rust and then just put a skim of filler over the whole of the affected part and then repaint it as the bare metal will be covered by the filler and hopefully then it shouldn't rust again as easily? whats your view on this?

thanks matt.

The fact you've rubbed it back before and it's come back suggests it's deeper than you suspect.

Rubbing it down and skimming over with filler is masking the problem opposed to sorting it IMO.

I'm pretty sure the rear quarter panel I have is N/S. I will double check and get back to you.

Yep, I have an inner and an outer panel, let me know if either of them are the ones you are after.

Isn't the GTI rear quarter slightly different to the standard 205?!
