Tracking Settings For 309 Wishbones

Recommended Posts

Rams_gti6

Just fitted some 309 wishbones and now the tracking needs sorting. I'm taking it tomorow to get it sorted before cadwell on Wednesday. What's the best or most preferred settings??

Personal preference really but in my opinion set to absolute parallel is best all round

Just tried to drive my car after fitting the wishbones leaving the tracking as it was. I never realised how far out the 309 bones have made it!

To a certain degree, it doesn't matter what it is as long as you know what it is so you can then make changes from a known baseline (hope that made sense). I've always run parallel to slight toe out on anything FWD and French.

What did you have it set to before you fitted the 309 arms ? I'd reset it to the same figure so you can assess the affect of the longer arms without having to worry about any tracking difference. I'm a firm believer in only making 1 change at a time.

As above, set it to parallel and scribe lines on the arms, that way you can wind them in and out a bit to try out different toe settings. Once you've ballsed it up you can reset back to your marks :)

It was just standard settings I'm guessing. Now it's about 90 degrees out! Or not quite but a hell of a lot!

As above - get it set to parallel (zero toe) initially and see how you find that.

Try about quarter-half a turn each side toe out (ie winding the TRE inwards to shorten the arm) at the track and see how you get on with the change - it'll likely turn-in much better and work well on track, but be a little nervous at speed and probably tramline on rutted roads.

Given that mine's predominately a road car I tend to just leave it at zero toe and it works well enough.

The tracking will be waaaaay out at the moment btw if you've fitted 309 wishbones and not touched the tracking - you'll need to wind out the TRE's about 6mm or so per side to even get it in the right ballpark and something other than a complete pig to drive.
