Gti6 Engine Cutting Out Once Warm

Recommended Posts

It seems to start fine, then idle ok, until up to temperature and then begins stuttering before finally cutting out. Even giving it some throttle, doesn't help. It'll rev up a bit but still cut out eventually.

Could this be the lambda?

Strange thing is, when I first started it yesterday (after installing it back into the car after a year or so), it got up to temp, fans cutting in and out, with no apparent problem. But since then, every time I start it and let it get warm, it will cut out. It will normally start again, but only run for say 10-30 secs before dying again.

Unplug the lambda sensor and see if the issue persists

Tried this tonight and it was a little inconclusive.

Whilst it wouldn't cut out if I disconnected the lambda, it also wouldn't cut out if (with lambda plugged back in), I disconnected the coolant temp sensor. Plugging the CTS back in, it would cut out, so began to think it was the CTS. I'm wondering though, that if by disconnecting the CTS, it was over-fueling and helping the engine to keep running, thereby masking any problem with the lambda, because it then eventually cut out with the CTS disconnected and the lambda plugged in - so am leaning towards the lambda being at fault.

Any thoughts? The lambda is only about 5 years/20k old, whereas I've never replaced the CTS.

By way of an update, I fitted a new CTS. No difference.

I then fitted a new TPS (throttle position sensor), which seems to have solved it. Seems a little strange that the TPS was causing this, when the throttle wasn't being touched, and it was at idle. But I suppose the TPS is sending a signal even when the throttle is closed - though I'm simply guessing now. Anyway, it appears to be back to normal.
