Water Leak

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I have a non sunroof 205.

I have a leak in the passenger footwell, I currently have no interior in my 205 and I can see where the leak is coming from, its coming from beside the bonnet latch.

This only happens when its raining.

I have cleaned out the scuttle panel and the drain holes.

yet the leak is still there.

Is it possible that the windscreen is leaking?

any other areas to look out for?

Windscreen could be the problem. Best way to try and find out exactly where the leak is originating from is to fill up a watering can with water and some food colouring. Make sure the inside of the car is thoroughly dried out and get someone to pour the water over the suspect area while you sit inside. This should give you a good idea of where It's coming from.

Other areas apart from the windscreen could be door seals also

I had the same problem, try pouring water down the drain hole at side of bonnet hinge, the water is supposed to run straight into the area between inner and outer wings then outside wich it probably will but check for it coming into the footwell aswell, if it does just poke your fingers into the hole lol.... it may well be coroded in there. Worth a try..

My Saxo VTS track car did that - on the passenger side as well - one of the growing number of reasons it's being stripped / scrapped lol

But in my case it was due to a small gap between the windscreen seal & plastic scuttle allowing water to enter. In addition to that there was a very fine rust hole where the wing / scuttle met right in the same area.

Had it not been for the fact I'd plated the sunroof I would have just assumed it to be a leak from the sunroof drain, but after going digging around the area where it looked like the water was getting in, it didn't take long to find the cause.

I'm having the windscreen replaced this week, due to a crack, so hopefully this will fix it. I can't really put the interior back in until its fixed.

I have tried the water can method, but doesn't leak, Its only with pro longed periods of rain, I get water
