What Gearbox Is This?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

i bought what i thought was a 205 1.6 gti be1 gearbox.

however upon stripping it down i found that it was indeed a 5 speed, but the selector forks are / look like they are cast iron/steel and not the bronze ones you would expect to find. reverse is as per be1 but there is no casting marks on the casing to depict it being "BE1" it does have "XU 30(degrees)" the bearing by 5th gear was a closed race type and there was no circlip on the selector shaft under the 5th gear cover cap..

any ideas guys??

Thanks.

Yet the early ones used those selectors as do MA which used them to quite late on, Crap idea as the plastic bits snap and give you a very sloppy linkage, But on a plus side this should be the C/R box which early 1.6's used

Thanks guys.

I was going to use the gears along with an 4.4 cwp for my 1.9 mi tarmac car. Should accelerate pretty damn quickly then if so

1.41

1.06

sounds about right for a 1.6 box, 1's was a bit short with a bigger gap to 2nd than a 1.9, what Final drive is it?

Not always on the FD, 405's used the same one as at a guess a few other PSA car's
