Standard Engine Tuners In North West? Or Better Management Option?

Hi I have a standard 205 gti 1.6 it's running rich and a tad lumpy, I need tuner to fine tune the engine in so it runs perfect but no one will touch it because it's too old! Does anyone know a place I can take it?

 

I have heard of people getting a more modern 8v ecu and loom and fitting it to the 205 which makes for a smoother engine n better power, getting rid of the dizzy etc and using more modern ignition, does anyone know what they might have used?

 

I am aware of omex etc but that's a last resort aftermarket management but if I was to go for that what would be best to use on standard gti?

Skip Brown Cars in Cheshire would probably be a good bet for someone that's localish to you and who know 205's very well.

 

You're probably thinking of Motronic MP3.1 managemement from a Citroen ZX 1.9i, but that's only suited to a 1.9 engine and wouldn't run properly on a 1.6 unless you had it remapped to suit - there's few people in the UK that can do that as far as I'm aware, but one person is Chipwizards who are based around Halifax AFAIK.

You're probably thinking of Motronic MP3.1 managemement from a Citroen ZX 1.9i, but that's only suited to a 1.9 engine and wouldn't run properly on a 1.6 unless you had it remapped to suit - there's few people in the UK that can do that as far as I'm aware, but one person is Chipwizards who are based around Halifax AFAIK.

 

Sorry to hijack but I've been considering converting to Motronic MP3.1 for my '89 1.9. Would I just need the ECU or would I need to swap the AFM etc.?

MP3.1 doesn't use an AFM.

 

you'd need a 60-2 flywheel & TDC sensor, wasted spark coilpack, Mixture potentiometer (usually bolted to the ecu) and the throttle position switch, also an inlet air temperature sensor.

 

they use the same coolant temp sender and same injectors.

 

quite a few threads elsewhere about it, no need to hijack.

 

 

 

Chipwizards are cheshire based, usually working out of Porsche specialists https://www.ninemeister.com/ in warrington I believe rather than his own place in Rochdale.

Cheers for the replies, wealth of knowledge on here is priceless, I started to do the timing and co2 etc myself, I think I have figured it out I was touching the dizzy to turn it to time it in and was getting shocks form the leads, is this normally due to the high voltage or do they need replacing? I've ordered a new set plus spark plugs rotor arm and dizzy cap plus a vacuum advance hose.

 

One thing I'm a bit stuck on is I timed it in to the mark perfect then adjusted the screw on top of throttle body to control rpm? And timing was out again so timed it back in and car was weak, low on power? Then I got a call to fly out to work so had to leave it there unfortunately, I won't be back for a few weeks but was just wondering if I'd done it in the wrong order? I'm going to test the advance retard when I get back before I start and turn the engine over to the timing mark manually and check rotor lines up with spark 1
