Mi16 Tensioner Torque Up While Engine In The Car.

Recommended Posts

yorkshirekowboy

Just about to do my cam belt but looking at the space from engine to the engine bay unsure my torque wrench will fit in with a socket. Before when I did it I didn't torque them up and it was fine. Also what torque do they did to be set at. I'm going to be using some m8 x25mm bolts with some washers. I've looked on the search couldn't find any info. Thanks Danny ps the water pump bolts, what's the torque setting for them?

All the torque settings can be found in the appropriate haynes manual buddy.

The proper bolt from Peugeot has a large diameter captive bellville washer to stop it being able to work loose, I recommend you use the proper Peugeot hardware here not just any old bolt and washer.

Cheers, found the torque settings, just need to find the part number for them bolt s. Thinking mine originally had hex heads on them which are a nightmare to work with without rounding them off.

The originals were usually a low head torx socket bolt, they are prone to rounding. The later replacements are a 13mm hex head screw with integral washer, and are easier to work with.

Cheers, the other engine I have has Allen head bolts so maybe they are wrong. Anyhow looked on the parts website, them old's bolts your talking about look like torx headed bolts classed as self tapping bolts. You don't know the part numbers for them bolts your talking about? I gather because the bolt already has the washer part of it a washer is not needed just that bolt.

Hmmm, Should be £1.04+vat but yes the minimum order quanity is 10, unless you can find a dealer who already has stock.

it is just a 25mm long m8 though with integral washer, so if you have a good fasteners supplier then you can probably get them cheaper.

I'm no expert on fasteners so i wouldn't like to bet my 16 valves on it, let alone yours.

I use Grade 8.8 M8x25 here with a hardened steel washer. Don't forget to rotate the tensioner anti-clockwise when tensioning, or else the tension of the belt will undo the tensioner. I also file off two points of an allen key, so you can get in really close.

Thanks for your help. Do you mean anti clockwise when look at the engine from the side behind the wheel. The belt and engine runs towards the front of the car when running, so the tension ers (both?) Need to be the opposite direction the belt runs?. Also what do you mean about the Allen bit? I gather a normal size washer m8 is ok, not a penny /repair washer size. Thanks
