309 Fuel Cap Popping Open!

Recommended Posts

allye

I would ask on the 309 forum but.....zzzzzzz

The fuel cap on my goodwood bloody keeps popping open! Double sided tape is not a long term option.

Anyone got any pointers or advice?

its probably just worn the locking tab on the flap, or the plunger is not returning as far as it should.

If you open the fuel flap you can remove the black plastic cover round the filler aperture that hides all the screws and locking mechanism . Then check out the spring loaded latch , as stated it could worn or sticking .

I'll take a closer look, I've already taken the cover off, the lever inside is quite stiff too. The spring and clip are free but sounds as though the clips not moving back far enough.

I don't know how they are supposed to look but that spring is clearly not right.

Cheers Allan, common problem then. I'll try something along those lines.

Mine did the same and it was just the plastic catch part that had worn, mine had a piece of plastic wedged in the same place as allanallen,as far as i know they are not supposed to have anything in there but could be wrong.managed to get a new catch from a lucky trip to the scrappy and is a straight forward job to change.Im also pretty sure if you remove the flap in the boot on the o/s you can get to the cable adjuster, you could try adjusting it so the worn part of the catch isnt on the fuel flap, may do as a temp solution.
