Fitting Driveshaft Question

Recommended Posts

mrfirepro

Thought I would have a read through the Haynes manual before re-fitting the drive shafts, when I came across this paragraph.

"10 Note the design of the differential unit is such that if both drive shafts are removed the differential side gears will fall down into the final drive housing...."

looking through the final drive it all looks in place, so as far as I was concerned I would just push the drive shafts into the final drive, but this paragraph has made stop.

The manual does not then mention what has to be done when both shafts are removed, can anyone assist please...

this only applies to particularly early gearboxes, I've not seen any of this type yet.

IIRR that was with the old not GTI BH gearbox. The ones that shared the engine oil for lubrication.
