Need A Pre85 Car For Sub £1K. But What?

Recommended Posts

axnutty

Im thinking of going into a different form of motorsport, I dont intend to be competitive (least not at first) and nor do I care what size /cc/fwd/rwd/etc/etc. There are only 3 stipulations, I need something pre 85 plate, and must be wearing a MOT (and not a dodgy one), and be £1000 or less.

Now the obvious thing is ebay and set those parameters and see what you get, but frankly there isnt much choice and nor do I think ebay is a cheap place to buy obscure cars. Prices are just too high and unjustly so...

So anyone got any suggestions or better yet know of any cars up for grabs that fit the bill?

Old ford is going to be full of rust, old vw less so an still relatively cheap so that's got to be a good option!

The rally 126 is fantastic, I would love one, but its well out of my price range. I could start to think about Midgets and Minis at that level. The Ford option is a rusty one, but thats being unfair, as you should look at a car on an individual level. I was thinking down the lines of a Porsche 924 or Gen 1 RX7 if I could find one... MK2 Golf isnt old enough? and MK1 too much money, did think about Metros, I just cant get that excited about them. The mk1 polo maybe could be a possibility....

Mk2 scirocco where about in 85. Mk2 golf gti's where as well. I know of an 85 on a b plate. Mk1 polo will be dear. Highly sought after by the 'dub' boys.

Classic rally events, just a bit of fun Tom thats not too serious.

Scrap the polo idea then, i have to say the more i think about it the more i feel an early log book (205) may actually be the cheapest option given ive already got one.
