Can anyone te me a def answer on which clutch cable I need. I have done a cable conversion on a be4 box. Had 3 cables from local motor factors. But no joy yet. My car is a 1991 gti that was a be3 and I've now put the tu5 engine in

I haven't done it myself (yet), but would a berlingo or partner one be worth looking at? as I think they had a cable BE4 box, not sure what theyre like at the pedal end though.

I seem to recall somebody in one of the BE4 threads mentioning adapting a 205 TU one to fit.

What have you tried so far?

EDIT: according to this thread

a berlingo/partner one should be correct at both ends

I used the original MA clutch cable, I just re-routed it to run the 'other way' through the engine bay. For example, it comes directly out of the firewall and heads to the front of the engine bay, passed the cambelt. It then turns and runs along the front of the engine and picks up the clutch arm on the front of the BE4 box.

It looks like it wont work, but it does, works a treat!

I tried a 306 / Berlingo / Partner clutch cable running the original cable route, but the cable is about twice the length it needs to be and doesn't work at all.

The best solution would be to have a custom cable made up with the correct ends, but that's just too expensive when the original MA cable works with a quick re-route!

How does it cope with the heat Ross?

Ive seen the berlingo/partner cable used, its quite long.

It seems to be coping ok, however its not ideal. I heat wrapped the clutch cable and the area of manifold where the cable passes and it's holding up ok.

Being a standard MA cable, it'll be nice and cheap to replace if it does fail. In fact, it's still the original 100k, 24 year old cable the car came with from the factory....
