Use Power Steering System From Td On Gti - Possible?

Recommended Posts

mmatthej1

Just acquired a '93 1.8 turbo diesel with intention of whipping off some good parts, then maybe scrapping or selling the shell - it has quite a new power steering rack and I'm just wondering if it would be possible to fit on my GTI, which is rather hard work, when it comes to parking!

Can anyone advise, please?

(I notice that the PS belt drive to pump seems to be driven at end of camshaft on TD, wheras the GTI has the distributor in that position - yet some GTI's do have PS, so not sure how that happens)

Rack and column is worth keeping. But the rest is different. Easiest way is to get the GTI engine bracket, pump and pipes, which will allow you to bolt the lot straight on.

The TD serup is ideal if you run a Mi16 in the 205 though. Using it on my track car.
