Master Cylinders.............what Happens If I Fit A 25.4 Mm

Recommended Posts

right so im on the hunt for a master cylinder for my 205 mi16 that has gti6 front discs calipers and standard 1.9 rear discs and calipers.

i know everyone fits the gti6 / 406 master cylinders 23.8mm bore.

i was wondering what would happen if i went to a 25.4mm bore??

So i dont really want to be going bigger than the 23.8mm cylinder then??

Lower clamping force on the caliper.

For the same pedal pressure.

yup, I do recall the one of the citroen sport rally cars ran a 25.4mm MC with the very same brake calipers possibly.

IIRC a VW transporter unit is directly compatible, the citroen one was used with an adapter plate IIRC

So does anyone have a 25.4mm master with gti6 calipers fitted?

How does it feel?

Or should i just stick with a 23.8mm??

My mate has... He has one from an Audi, intended for the upgrade later on.

It's way too big for gti6 calipers; hardly any travel in the pedal, so the booster doesn't do anything. Gives an unsafe feeling, until you press it very hard.

I thought brake booster was the American English term but I just looked on Servicebox and they use the terms servo, booster and amplifier all on one screen!
