Mi16 Crank Thats Threw A Rod - Do They Survive?

Recommended Posts

Stu

Hi all,

Im starting to think about putting a 2045cc '6 engine together with the crank from my old Mi that threw a rod; it hasnt been checked, and obviously that'll be the first thing to get done before i even start to buy any bits, but i just wondered if anyone else had re-used a crank in a fresh build from an engine that had previously thrown a rod?

Not thrown a rod as such, but I've spun a rod bearing had the crank straightened, ground 0.5mm undersize & it sees 8000rpm every time its used!

If it has discoloured the journal the crank is probably bent.

From memory there was no discoloration on the journal that spun, and no major signs of pickup either weirdly, i would say a first size overgrind would clean the journal up...

Was more concerned with it being bent from the force of ejecting the rod through the block :P
