Why std injection? Thats the first thing I would ditch.

add 1.6 pistons, std compression is a bit low.

add a ph4 newman cam and bodies, 170-180bhp.

double valve springs would be wise.

To all intents and purposes yes, looks like someone has tidied the casting marks but nothing much else done, certainly not a "big valve ported flowed yada yadda stage 69 head"

Specifically the xu9j2 engine, they have a flat top due to the larger chamber in the head, so in a 1.6 gives a good amount extra compression for running lumpier cams.

Double valve springs will be mandatory. The ph4 cam has 0.490" lift. It will definitely spring bind on standard springs.

I'm looking at a similar spec myself and am just getting my head around all the parts/machining required so that my car is off the track for as short period as possible.

I've been looking at the Kent double valve springs (http://www.kentcams.com/product-details/627/Engine-Component/Valve-Spring/VS52-Double/#fragment-4)- what work is needed to make them fit? Presume seats and retainers would need machining?

If you're a tight @rse like me, you'd make your own spring bases and machine the standard retainer to accept the inner spring. Otherwise, companies like Kent and Catcams sell kits. Either way, you'll need to machine around the valve guide to allow the spring seat/inner spring somewhere to sit.
