Help With Checking If A Car Has Been Scrapped.

Hey guys,

 

I've been thinking lately that around 10 years ago I scrapped a 205 GTi 1.6, but looking on the DVLA vehicle check it has never been taken off there and displays no MOT details and tax from 2005 but I was under the impression that cars scrapped are taken from the database when the new combined system rolled out, so I'm wondering if there's a way of checking if my original GTi is out there still in some form or another?

 

I can't recall being issued the COD for the car back then and it went to a local small breakers near me if I remember correctly..

 

Are there any procedures I can go through to see if it's still about?

I've always checked on the car tax check thing online and when there scrapped they come off there. If it still shows on there it'll show as unliscenced which means they have no record if it being scrapped

I know it can be a bit hit and miss with them, My Mum and Dad's Ford Escort death trap which they sold years ago is showing as last taxed in 2000 which I'm certain isn't still kicking around as it was a shed back then and a cut and shut to boot!

 

But checking some other cars more recently scrapped they are totally wiped from the DVLA records...

there's cars showing on there which i know for a fact are scrapped, and still show the information for - which i've just checked two of my own and their info is on there, just untaxed / without MOT

 

you could assume if it's not got MOT or Tax on the DVLA website, and it doesn't show it as SORN, you'd reckon it was scrapped..

 

i've just checked an MG Metro i know of which got scrapped in 1993, and it's still showing on there.
