What Is This?

What is this in my 93 1.9 passenger wheel arch?? It is completely rusted in half and hanging off. I noticed it was a bit rusty a while back but now it's just hanging there.

Charcoal canister

Nice one. That told me enough that it's probably doing me no good so i've blanked off its connection to the inlet. If I remove the canister what else do I need to do? I've obv blanked off the black rubber hose going to the inlet via a solenoid but there is also a white plastic pipe going somewhere that I can't see. What should I do with that?

White hose goes to the fuel tank/filler neck .. blank off as well or remove completely as you wish .

 

From the entire EVAP system can remove all the parts except the solenoid valve if it still works , as the wiring needs to be plugged in otherwise it'll lit the engine check "K" light on the dash instruments .. if the solenoid valve doesn't work or if you want to remove it as well , solder an 1.2Kohm resistor on it's connector to trick the system so that it doesn't lit the "K" light .
