Coolant Temperature Sensor Mi16 Single Spade

Has anyone got the right part number or a spare kicking about so i can get/test a known correct working unit.

For months now (since i changed my sensor) ive been having false readings on my coolant temperature reading.

So much so ive removed the thermostat to ensure the car is staying cool incase there are any concerns that im not seeing.

Even with the thermostat removed my car is going from standing over night where it starts off on the 3rd bar to the temp gauge on the warning light box within 1 mile of driving.

I went to gsf yesterday and they said they no longer do the sensor (I did doubt this as the guy was in a rush) so i went to Euro Car Parts where ive picked up a sensor part number 224735011.

ECP man did have a bit of a search but this is what we though was right, and on the screen and the box its labled as 'temp sender 205/309/405 XU'

The pic on the screen was of a black one (like the one i am removing) but the one given has a red top.

If anyone has any other ideas whats going on then feel free to save me doing a Basil Faulty.

I have tested the wiring and gauge by earthing the multiplug under the dash and it goes to max as it should and also if I earth the connector in the bay the gauge maxes out too so all seems good here.

Im trying to rule all things out again so I tried to find any blockages today by popping a running hose pipe in the expansion tank and disconnecting pipes

It all started to come out brown which its never really done before, so not sure if this is a sign of something.

Starting at the exit of the heater matrix the flow coming out was free flowing so im guessing there are no blockages and I saw nothing bunged up in the thermostat housing. So again Im guessing the flow is good. When connected back up the flow going back into the expansion tank seems to be strong so the water pup seems to be working.

I then decided to test the resistance on the sensor and the temperatures and resistance all tie in with the image below. I have the single blade type not the one pictured but i presume both plugs will give the same results.

So all things look well, the only thing i can think of doing is running a new wire through and soldering it into the brown multiplug in the cabin, and i really hate soldering.

If anyone has any other ideas feel free to shout out.

Maybe try a 270 ohm resistor across the gauge wiring close to the dash as possible to see if it's the gauge or a wiring fault? Should show around 80C.
