Hydraulic Pas Delete Questions

Recommended Posts

What have people done when deleting the powering steering?

I mean regarding lubricating the rack, or is it a case of just blanking the hydraulic ports?

I'm probably going Corsa EPAS that's all.

It doesn't need lubrication, just blank the ports.

There has always been a suggestion that the pinion on a PAS rack shouldn't be used unassisted but lots of us have ignored that and AFAIK nobody has had any problems apart from a slight dead spot around centre that is far from universal. However I came across this recently - http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=335874 - if I was running a PAS rack unassisted again I would look into it.

That's an interesting post , I have just built up an unassisted rack for my Miami 309 from a standard 309 GTI PAS rack . Removed the ram and pipes plus the boss it bolts to .I have another spare which I might have to strip and have a close look at to see if there is any built in play in the pinion .Have not fitted it to a car yet so no idea if it will feel 'tight' .

I hope to fit it this winter to dramatically reduce the under bonnet plumbing and improve steering feel plus maybe a BHP or two extra .
