Trying To Start A 1.9 Engine

Recommended Posts

Rolando

hello all,

i bought a 309 gti the other day which had been laid up for a good few years with a melted engine loom.

i traced back and changed parts of the melted loom but still didn't have any dash lights apart from the red lights on the oil pressure and water temp gauge. i cleaned the earths on both the inner wings and this didn't help.

with changing parts of the engine loom i managed to get the engine to turn over by the key. i checked for spark and fuel which it had but it wouldn't start so i thought there was no power to the injectors. i checked that and i had power there so carried on spinning the engine over. got to a point where i thought it must be flooded so i took all the plugs out and it was soaking. span the engine over and got covered in fuel. i left it for 20mins to dry out, tried again and nothing. checked the plugs, bone dry and now no spark or any power to the injectors.

pulling my hair out, i disconnected the battery, had a look round the engine bay tried to start it again and it kicked and then just span over. plugs out, soaking with fuel. still checking i had spark which i did and the fuel coming out was unreal. as if the injector was wide open and just chucking fuel in. cleaned it all up again and now I'm back to square one with no spark or power at the injectors.

is there anywhere i should be looking/checking to see why i don't have both spark and power? i thought the car had an immobiliser but apparently this isn't a factory standard feature on a 309? and the cars completely standard form what i can see.

any help or suggestions would be muchly appreciated. thanks Rolando

thought id reply to this if anyone has problems in the future. changed the 7 pin relay near the ecu and it started on the button. not bad for a car thats been laid up for 4 years +

after talking to pug damo, he looked up in the haynes manual and it turns out that relay controls the fuel pump, injectors and power to the dizzy. hope this is of help to anyone reading it.
