Deep Clean Of Credowan's Black 205 Gti.

Recommended Posts

Today was the day of credowan's, Gary, Black 205 GTI Deep Clean.

It's badge up as a 1.9. However, there is a 2 litre 16 V GTI6 lump under the bonnet.

Gary has been in regular contact since May in regards to a Deep Clean. He is already of member of Detailing World and asked if I could show him the ropes in how this cleaning stuff works.

It would be my pleasure.

It was very strange working on a Black 205 that was not mine.

Here is how we started.

Gary did message me the other day and asked if he should wash the car prior to coming. What is the point of coming to a Deep Clean with a clean car? and did you see the state of Goliath's when he came down? ;)

DSC_0389_zps8aae5219.jpg

Anyhow the car arrived nice and dirty.

Although Gary had quite a few sharp intakes of breath once he saw these swirls. I have seen a lot worse on much newer cars.

Nearside complete off side to do.

Nasty scratching on the offside. May have been a bit of a mark that someone has had a real good go at..............with a Brillo pad.

Wet Sanding time with 3000 grade wet and dry paper.

Better.

By this time I could see that Gary was itching to have a go.

He did.

He said he ad always been terrified for machine polishing and the damage that he could cause. Using a Dual Orbital polisher there is no need to worry. It is very very difficult to mess up.

Moving on around the car.

A mixture of finishing protection products were used on Gary's GTI.

For the bonnet, the hardest wearing part of a car.

The trims on Gary's GTI were already in very good order. So these were treated with Auto Finesse Revive. All put on by Gary himself.

Glass was Auto Glym Fast Glass. Again, all done by Gary. He was a great little helper all day long.

Even got him to do the mucky job. The exhaust!

All in all a cracking day. Gary I enjoyed your company. Yes, as predicted we done lots of chatting. However, with your help and enthusiasm, the day flew past and we finished all in good time.

9 hours start to finish.

Gary was clicking away all day with his camera and hopefully he can add some more.

I know he got a cracking shot during the Snow Foam.

You clearly are very good at what you can do. Have you ever considered showing your work to a local up market car dealership eg Porsche etc to see if they send work your way. Perhaps offer to do half a car for free and if they want you then to finish it because they are happy they pay you for the whole job.

Thank you Jeremy for your kind words.

This is only a hobby. Main dealers have their own 'valeting teams' that prepare their cars for customers.

Usually low paid, crap products and they have to get 10 cars out a day.

I'll have a dig around for a newly delivered 'supercar' which taken under proper detailing lights was an absolute mess.

Anyway, a dealer couldn't afford me. ;)

Amazing work again mate. Wish I lived closer haha. Interesting that you use different waxes for different panels?

Thanks Alex.

Usually, I would decide on a wax depending on the colour or the car. Although, I am not totally convinced that different waxes have much effect on the colour of the paint.

As Gary had put in great bit off effort during the day. I got out a few of the more expensive products. :)

Great write up Glen!

As said I'd been in contact with Glen for a while regarding the Deep clean service but with the hours we both work was finding it hard to nail a date down but he was kind enough to fit me in a Saturday.

I really didn't want to turn up with the car in a state but he assured me even if I'd cleaned it, it would be getting the same treatment which at times felt never ending two bucket washes lol snow foam another two bucket wash etc and we hadn't even really got started yet.

I also showed a interest via pm of the products and processes and equipment involved in doing the different stages and credit to Glen he answered every question and broke it down so even I could understand. He took the time to show me how to use the DA and let me have a go, explaining as we went. (Always been a bit scared of messing with my paint work)

Having seen threads where he's done Deep cleans previously I thought I knew what was involved but being there seeing it first hand/ having a go really hit home how much hard work is involved.

I've got a few pictures I'll upload later but just wanted to post saying a BIG thanks to Glen for yesterday, thoroughly enjoyed myself and learnt a lot and great chatting.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this.... Top bloke

Cheers

Gary

Yeah still love the 205's... One of those things that gets under your skin I think

If you've still got your 205 you should come to Hot Hatch Sunday at Goodwood, early October
