What's With This 205?

Recommended Posts

I've been looking at this ad and scratching my head about it, now I know it's in Ireland so half the discrepancy could be there but this 1997 XRAD 205 van just doesn't look right.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201407306205755/sort/default/model/205/radius/1500/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/page/1/advert-type/Classified/postcode/pl49na/usedcars/make/peugeot?logcode=p

The car is from 1997, which seems strange for one, the steering wheel seems really early compared to other late 205's, the plastic panel on the boot was phased out around 1993 IIRC, why would Peugeot fit one to presumably the last registered one? The colour scheme just seems off too, far more like a van from 91-93 rather than as late as 97.

Any views on this people?

I'm almost certain a van wouldn't have had a rear wiper so it's probably had the tailgate replaced.

I don't think it's ever been anything other than a van???

The doors look to have been replaced as they look a different shade in the pics but it could be the light or just how the reds go!

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that there would be a late registered van around as I don't think the 206 wouldn't have had one to start off with. There are a few pics around of other XRAD's with rear wipers so presumably it was just a case of popping out the blanking plug and fitting the wiper & motor so probably a dealer option......

old stock, likely to have been built early 90's and only sold later on, so 'new' at first registration

205 sales really fell off a cliff towards the end didn't they! My 96' 1.1 has date stamps on the engine and plastic trims from 1994 whereas my 1.8 base diesel registered on the same day is all stamped with 96, random indeed.

I think the hubcaps may give it that illusion but I thought that too.
