Is This Fan Belt Right For My Gti?

Recommended Posts

forbeslongden

Hey gents,

Ordered a Conitech Alternator belt through Eurocarparts based on the registration of my 1.6 GTi but it doesn't look quite right, for a start, it's about half the width and it's got ridges on the inside rather than grooves if that makes sense....

Is this just a newer type of belt or have ECP sent the wrong one?

Thanks!

I should mention, based on the picture in the link the illustration on the sleeve of the belt suggests it is grooved - which it isn't.

It looks like this :

Urgh! Stupid ECP, did the 1.6 even ever have Air con? I'm wondering if there's a massive amount of difference...

It does seem a little wrong in the circumference stakes....

might be a newer type of belt, its still multi rib but some dont have continuous ribs to give more grip and longevity before cracking.

pop a picture up.

The picture is the second one down; I'm in two minds just to try and fit it but it is quite small.

send it back then, local factors ive found always has something to suit, a basic spec 8v gti uses a 4pk 699 ish.

Yeah I will take it back to them, it was my fault; looking at ECP website, the correct one was there! Doh indeed!

Not even a A/C one, they are 4pk as well, the old V belts are used on TU & XY engines
