205 Security Upgrades, Alarm Advice

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm just wanting people's opinions on security for are cars, I know that if they really want it they'll take it.....as shown with recent events with cars getting stolen but let's talk deterants and ways to limit it.

I personally couldn't imagine coming home and the car being gone, must be a gut wrenching time.

I currently block mine in with another car and soon it'll be put in a garage and I'm thinking ill put a garage defender outside, remove the battery and leave it on trickle charge away from the car

Does anyone also use the car wheel lock ?

Mine has a immobiliser/alarm fitted at the moment but its not the best and regularly annoys me,so do i just remove this item and leave steering lock on or get replaced with something else, can anyone recommend a alarm/immobiliser, toad ?

Thanks in advance for advice

Gary

I'd say some form of alarm/immobiliser is a must, if yours is not up to the job then best to replace with one that is.

As for other security measures, visual deterrents go a long way I think. I've not done this personally but I've heard of some people using a removable steering wheel/boss on their cars which should confuse your generic car thieves somewhat. Wiring in additional hidden cut offs is also a good step I.e. remote cut off to fuel pump etc.

These measures are all good for basic security but as you say if the thieves want your car they will get it somehow. As seen recently on the forum immobilisers etc do sod all against a shady character with a recovery truck.

If you are happy enough with the hassle of taking the battery out, why not just take a wheel off?

Or get an Alsatian!

Hi, I'll be taking the battery off when stored over the winter anyway to leave it on trickle charge to keep it in good state.

I'll have to think about the dog and steering wheel

Your cars looking great by the way, well done

Toad Ai606. It's a basic CAT1 system that's reliable and does exactly what it says on the box.

I'm wiring an immobiliser into mine, but a snap off boss which works somehow with the standard wheel would be cool. Am yet to see anything that would work without engineering something

I have that above and a steering wheel lock, including a Toad AI606 with window stickers telling people so. If you have enough on show to prove to people that you care enough and they're gonna have to work for it then they'll walk away because it's not worth the hassle.
