Stolen White 1.9Gti, K89 And, West Lothian

Recommended Posts

Long time lurker here, but seldom a poster. Looks like I might not have any reason to come here now...

Just discovered my white 205 1.9GTi, K89 AND has been stolen from a driveway in Bo'ness, West Lothian.

Have owned my standard GTi for 12 years now, so am fairly annoyed to say the least.

It was sitting with a flat tyre and a flat battery, so it has been lifted onto a wagon rather than someone looking to take it for a joyride.

Nearside rear wheel is black, all others are standard - apart from that, no obvious identifying marks.

Please keep an eye out for it, and keep an eye on your own one too!

A little worrying for our Scottish 205 owners as there seems to have been a spate of cars being stolen (or an attempt to steal them) recently

Yeah this is a worry, I'm not a million miles away from where this was nicked.

Will keep an ear out for any parts becoming available.

I wouldn't be surprised if newish ones start getting rung as old ones soon and sold on to people who don't know the difference.

Been thinking about this.

Most people with wagons/transporters are businesses, so I can't see it being nicked like that, a business wouldn't jeopardise themselves like that, plus a good chance their wagon would be logo'd up.

Which to me means its been put on a trailer.

It's a big risk the thieves have taken, flat tyre, flat battery , and for all they knew brakes seized.

Was it stolen during the night or during the day?

To steal it they would have had to park up/position car/van & trailer, get in to your car, (hoping you dont have an alarm) break steering lock, push car on to trailer, and probably stop somewhere to put a cover over it, and then head to wherever.

There is a fair bit of activity involved with that.

Have you asked neighbours, post man, etc if anyone seen anything?

The vehicle used to lift the car may well have gone past any number of public/private security cameras on its journey as well. It's very worrying. Must get round to buying this cheap and effective tracking device when my cars back on the road:

Try checking local scrap yards, it is not unknown for neighbours to ring a local scrappy and get them to remove the car if it is annoying them, especially if it has not moved for a while. When I scrapped an old GLD they wanted no paperwork so it is very easy for this to happen.

Ams, i don't think that version is discreet enough.... too easy to see and chop the aerial off. You can get a little portable one for less than £20 (albeit doesn't have the same facilities), and uses a rechargable battery (which you could charge in the car with correct fag lighter adapter. which could be planked in the car. There's version with a dedicated iphone app / map too.

Well that is interesting after my attempted theft and one of the lads I know from West Lothian had had the same.

Door bent right back in his case.

Think we all have to be careful now. Mine is not driveable when it is left, and as of this evening undraggable/winchable.

I always park mine between 2 cars in a street right next to the police station in view of the police cameras and In view and ear shot of my flat, so if it starts I'll hear it, they cant trailer it away cos the street is tightly packed with parked cars. Still been meaning to get one of those trackers tho

Sorry to hear about your car buddy.

Those trackers are amazing, do not hesitate to get one. Also the ariels are not visible, or at least don't need to be.

You can keep coppers updated with the location if it's on a wagon, or if it was driven away you can cut the fuel pump from your phone, and then choose if to go yourself, or call the coppers...(!) If you're willing to spend extra 15 mins on wiring, you can be alerted when the door is opened.

I have had another delivered, ready to go onto the VFR. Use giff-gaff SIM as their top ups don't expire.

Everyone, get a tracker - please!!! We can nip this in the bud as thieving smackheads will realise the 205 community have gazumped them.

Just got myself one of these trackers and I have to say for £20 I'm really impressed. Fit it and forget it until you need it then you can use it to track and even stop the car with just a text message, brilliant! It will even text you any where in the world to say someone has opened the door or started the car.
