1600 Or 1900 Box

Recommended Posts

Evening people. Destroyed my input shaft on the Harry Flatters rally this weekend. I have a 4:9 CWP in the current box which is a 1600 gti box. First is extremely short but acceleration is amazing with a top sleed of around 112MPH which is good.

Am i right in thinking that there wpukd be a better advantage to rebuild the 4:9 into a 1900 box as it has a slightly longer 1st and longer 5th so slightly higher top speed without sacrificing too much acceleration?

5th is the same in both boxes, ie 0.865:1

Info I've got says 2nd to 5th are the same in both 'boxes.

<Edit> Link above says this is only the case for BE3 'boxes, the BE1 2nd being different also.

Depending on your engine spec, the longer 1st might lose you a touch but the smaller drop in revs when you change to 2nd might gain you a bit.
