Drivers Side Headlight

Recommended Posts

Phil205

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can a Drivers side headlight from.

The glass just fell out of mine.

Mine is the 1988 1.6.

I would prefer a new one if anyone has a web link to order one ?

Most parts places (ECP, GSF, SAF etc.) still sell them. Personally I'd go for a Valeo unit.

Euro Car Parts don't stock them for a 1988 - http://www.eurocarparts.com/headlight.

Hopefully GSF have some - http://www.gsfcarparts.com/942pc0610

What is SAF ? Do they have them in stock ?

Where would I get a Valeo unit ?

Has anyone had trouble changing the headlights ?

Are the clips likely to break ?

It looks like the screws holding the front grille will need to be drilled out. Very rusty !

Should be a 5 minute job.

Lucas headlights are good quality.

Sutton Auto Factors...http://www.buypartsby.co.uk

They have the Lucas ones in-stock. Valeo units may be quite hard to find new or at a price you're willing to pay.

If you are careful, you can usually wiggle the headlamps out without removing the grille.

Thankyou.

SAF have no stock, so it is looking like I will have to fit what I can get.

Do I just gently push back on the clips then press the load level adjustment arm from the lever ball ?

Are they likely to break due to age ?

I bought a set of Lucas ones and from past experience, they are really good - in fact, If I can't find original equipment, I'll try and source Lucas replacements. The headlights will be easy to remove and fit if you're careful and take your time, if you're worried about alignment, it won't cost too much to get your local garage to fit them.

Just be warned that if it's anything like the last Lucas headlight I had, it will stick out like a sore thumb if you only replace one and not a pair if you currently have the SEV Marcel type lenses with the dull surface behind the glass.

^ Sound advice, always good to replace the pair if the other one is a little tired looking, I made this mistake by buying a Lucus unit and leaving the tired Denji unit on the drivers side and it looked rather strange. If you've got the money, might as well do both as the grille will no doubt be off anyway so whilst you're there and all that...

Agree with Anthony.

I could do a pair delivered for 70 quid

I find getting pairs from late base models in breakers a good deal and tend to be very good condition valeo units.

I just checked and it appears they have both in-stock on their site...unless that's an error.

As for removal of the ball joints, I find getting as much of a firm grip on the arm and pulling firmly down while supporting the light unit from the bottom with the other hand works best.

Thanks,

I rang SAF yesterday and they told me they had no stock. This looks like the right part and for a good price :-

The load level adjustment arm kind of "pops out" from the lever ball when pulled down ?

Are the spring clips or lever ball likely to snap due to age ?

The lights are all the same across the 205 range so if they say they have it in for one type but not the other just order what they have in.

Yes, just pops out. Bit tricky to get a good grip but you'll get there.

Shoildn't snap due to age as plastic is plastic IMO. Just attempt it with some caution and time if you're worried.
