How Much Power/torque

Recommended Posts

Malc

Just thought I would throw this in for discussion.

I had a 2.0L turbo previously in my 205 (220bhp) that I thought was a pig, as too much low down torque and struggled to put the power down, even with an LSD, I now I have a 16V low boost supercharged engine, this is great with all the power at the top end,(which I prefer) but driveable as an everyday car. However as most of you are aware the lure of the power sucks you in, I could go for high boost (400bhp give or take) if I want more power, however I feel this would be far too much and ruin the car. I like the car the way it is but just want to hear other experiences on power craves, how many of you have ruined your car in the search for power?

Nowt to do with the above but just for reference, I'm just back from Alton towers (priority being the new Cbeebies land for my 3 yr old) but had a go on sonic the hedgehog ride myself as it was handy.

Believe me, sonic was a breeze after sitting next to Malc in his SC 16v last Sunday. All I could say was "f%%k sake"

We pulled out to overtake a car on a fairly short straight..... And went by 4 with ease.

And as Malc says, pussying about you wouldn't know it was anything.

Then the foot goes down, +5kRPM (i guess) and it's show time!

To me it was phenomenal,..... route 1.

(And I may or may not have had to change my boxers when I got home)

To quote the great Mark Donohue - when you're leaving black lines from the apex of one corner to the braking area of the next you have enough power.

It's all down to delivery - which would you prefer - 0 bhp @ 1000 rpm going to 300 bhp @ 8000 rpm linearly or 0 bhp @ 1000 rpm going to 100 bhp @ 4000 rpm going to 200 bhp at 4010 rpm going to 300 bhp @ 8000 rpm ?

I have near on 200bhp and 200lb/ft N/A and have no trouble at all putting the power down, no lsd either, just grippy r888 tyres. 1st gear gets some wheelspin (i never gun it in 1st on the road) but was surprised at how little wheelspin there was in 1st when going up the hill at pugfest.

My 2.0 turbo 8v engine gets the power down and is very usable mapped on Omex 600 230bhp
