What do I pick??

XU10J4RS

Trackday car, no road use, I want ultimate reliability and a bit more poke so sensible please

Probably not to wanting to mess around with going solid lifters unless its a nice easy off the shelf process.

Need something that works together nicely, compatibility is what its all about.

Ideas and options?

With std unmodified pistons you have sod all valve clearance, you can have an extra mm added to safely run the likes of a Newman PH2 or a PT81, but you can;t really go any further than that on the standard springs as they don't have much peak lift room when you want to go for wilder cams, and youre marginal on lift at TDC too.

Its a bit of an all or nothing build with the RFS engine, mild tuning as mentioned above and you'll crack 200 quite easily on bodies with a decent inlet and nice torque, from thereon you need around £1200-1400 for rods and pistons and you'll need uprated valvetrain to allow for the extra lift.

something like a PH4 newman camset is still hydraulic and intended as a Rally cam at 280 degree, this kind of cam would be designed for a decent torque band and peak around 7500.

That's just my musings really, done lots of looking into what's possible with them, I'm halfway through the first bit of mild tuning and will be adding bodies to my engine soon.

Cool cheers for that.

Sounds like a pretty much std build would fit my needs then without spending loads on stuff I don't need.

pretty much yeah, give Allan and Martin a shout at Bridgecraft to sort some pistons out, find a block that's not too worn and essentially just do a rebuild adding some cams and extra depth in the cutouts.

They usually have pistons on the shelf so to speak?

The block I have has only done 75k

Should be easy enough to source some on 306gti6.com, 6's are worth about £1.20 now! I will happily check the rods for roundness etc if you were to send us a used set from a third party.

My phone no. and direct email address is in the link in my signature if I can be any help :)

I have a nice complete bottom end ripe for a rebuild, bores in VGC. Make me an offer as it's just a spare at the moment.
