Fuel Tank Removal

Recommended Posts

I'm sure someone has been through this before but today I have removed my rear beam and started on the fuel tank and was just wondering how many bolts hold it on??? I have removed the handbrake cables/strap and the bolts at the rear, but I can't seem to find any bolts at the front of the tank!!!!!

It just wedges in at the front. Pull the back down and then it will pull backwards and down. You'll need to unclip all the hoses off the top as you go ;)

If a 205 is the same as the 309 its just the 2 nuts , washers and special spacers on the beam side of the tank . The front of the tank is supported by a ledge in the floor pan with a couple of yellowish plastic fixings , the middle exhaust mount screws to the floor and doubles as a fuel tank fixing ( on a 309 ) so this will need to come off . The 205 tank also has the metal strap that bolts to the beam tube and goes forward to the floor pan ( a 309 does not have this )

The 2 nuts go onto the 2 captive screws that come out of the floor pan , these are often very badly corroded .

Remove all fuel from the tank before dropping it or it will slosh out of the filler and drain pipes and it will be more awkward to manoeuvre because of the weight .

I found on my 309's that I could leave the fuel pipes ( high pressure to engine and return ) connected and just lower the tank down , and still have room to work .

Does anyone know what the metal strap on a 205is for, if a 309 doesn't have one? Is it weight bearing, or just a safety feature or something in case the bolts/nuts on the tank fail?

Make sure you've got rid of most of the fuel. Firstly it makes it lighter......and secondly whilst trying to catch itfuel has spilled out of the tank out of what's left of the filler.

Over me and my Tarmac driveway (melted. It).
