Fitting Mocal Oil Filter Relocater

Recommended Posts

johniban

I have a oil filter relocater, oil cooler and lines that apparently was from a Peugeot 106 turbo engine,

It doesn't fit my Gti6 engine as the orginal bolt that goes through the original water cooler oil cooler is too long once the original cooler is removed,

Is there a off the shelf bolt i can buy to fit it?

Its all Mocal by the way.

I used mine off my 205. You should of got the one in your link with the setup. However when you remove the original heat exchanger from the gti6/turbo block the original is very different leaving you needing a 205 basic one to screw onto.

Ebay john.

Loads on there.

Or Think Auotmotive/Merlin etc.

You just need to take some measurements.

Dont forget you will need a 205 normal one too for the mocal one to screw onto mate. Might as well order one of those at the same time if you havent got one

i think the 205 gti oil cooler is similar to the gti6 one, in that the center bolt is too long, so when removing the original oil cooler you need to remove the original bolt?

looked it up on google, says you have to retain the original water/oil cooler and fit the mocal sandwich plate ontop of that?

Nope.

At least you don't on my XU9J4.

Maybe dofferent on a gti6 but can't see why.

You could but it would be pointless. Just get a 205 oil filter thread off ebay

not pointless at all, allows for quick warmup but still maintains decent oil cooling capacity, nearly all the citroen and Peugeot sport rally cars have this arrangement and often utilise the shorter Renault type oil filter where space is at a premium.

Its pointless if your not going to use it which is what I presumed the op wasn't going to. Just an extra 2 seals that could leak over time.

Hi Slo did you use a thermostat in your oil take off plate ?. Cheers

I got one with a thermostat built in yes and it seems to work like a charm, much better than the heat exchanger it used to have.

My first Vauxhall engine build I used a laminova oil/water heater exchanger as I had fears of not getting the oil up to temp. On the second build I changed to a traditional 'stated cooler set up as it loaded up the water system too much and I got high water temps and sometimes it wasn't able to control the oil temp.

Anecdotal info really I know.

The GTi6 engine doesn't have the small threaded insert sticking out of the block for the adaptor to screw on to. That's why some guides say you need to keep the original sandwich plate. You can remove the original and fit the threaded insert from a model without the cooler.

I posted a diagram and part number in this thread. http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=159888&do=findComment&comment=1422190
