No Electrical Faults ....at Last !

I was out in my J reg 1.9 CTI and realised that after 6 years of ownership I finally have no outstanding electrical faults this is my list ...does anyone have a longer one :-)

 

1. Faulty electric hood switch (after buying a replacement hood pump...grrrrr)

2. Starter motor U/S

3. Faulty oil temperature gauge - wiring fault lug replaced

4. Faulty oil pressure gauge - u/s sender

5. Indicators not working -high resistance on the plug

6. Rear number plate lamp not working - lamp holder fallen apart

7. interior light not working - u/s light

8. Interior light no switching on from driver door - switch faulty

9. Car not starting - Tacometric relay replaced

10.Battery not charging - Alternator u/s

11. Reverse light not working - every plug, lamp holder had a high resistance

12. Clock not working - clock replaced

13. Clock not working again - dry joints on circuit board

14. Right indicator dash lamp not working - high resistance on connection

15. Car not starting - starter solenoid plug connector replaced

Unless you replace every single wire and terminal you're going to have electrical problems, it's amazing any of it works after 25-30 years outside!

Yet to tackle the electrics on mine. When I look at the looms lying on the garage floor I feel sick.

 

I have no clue with electrics. The worst part is everything worked fine before I messed with it.

I found it very easy to put back.

The fuse board plugs only go back one way,( I think theres a couple of spade connections that can get mixed). The loom is split into 4 main parts Front electrics (fed through passanger side hole in bulkhead), Rear electrics (from the fuse board under the passanger seat to the rear), Engine management (fed through drivers side footwell) Dashboard Controls/Lights. (hangs over the heater matrix).

Once you get them fed through the bulkhead and roughly in the position they were in, all most of the lugs should line up.

There's also a number on the end of each wire which can by referenced in the Haynes.
