Horn Not Working - Help!

OK that's ruled out then.

Have you checked the fuse? It should be number 8 I think.

If that's OK it could be the wire itself, it is pretty exposed so corrodes easily.

Glove box fuse box?

Number 8? Count up from left to tight?

Green 30 amp fuse? Still in one piece. Down to the wiring then.

I know you tell too much from a picture.

To me, not that I know a lot, the wires look ok.

I may have to get someone with a bit if know how to have a look.

Shame you are a bit far for me to come again Kieran.

Have you got a photo of your entire engine bay anywhere?

If any of that wiring is bad it is probably the main live feed which is the one that disappears into that black sleeving.

Post a photo of your engine bay first though so we can determine if it has a relay for the horn or not.

looks like 1.6 wiring, the two black spades are for separate low and high tone horns, the rung for the body of the horns to the main earth block on the rear of the headlamp panel.

1.9 will have two separate spade terminals and no ring.

My car is one of the Jap imports.

I don't know what set up they had in them originally.

The guy from the Isle of Wight is selling his on ebay at the moment. I think I might ask him to forward a photo of his engine bay to me.

Engine bay pix.

Yes, good point WP, so no relay then.

I imagine if you cut the spade connector off you'll find corroded (dull or black) copper. Cut it back bit by bit until you get to bright shiny copper wire then splice some new wire in at that point. Don't be surprised if you have to cut back quite a long way, start with 50-100mm or so but don't be surprised if you end up cutting a metre out!

IIRC on a late model the relays are in that black plastic box behind the passenger side strut but you'll just have a driving light relay in there probably.

Daylight has gone now. So will have to plod on tomorrow night.

Where does the other end of the live connect to? I may just get new wire and see if I can pull it through.

Edited for being an idiot still. It must go to the fuse box surely! Derrrrr.

I've never followed it any further back than the bulkhead but the wiring diagram shows it going to the fusebox as you'd imagine.

(the horns are 60 and the horn/headlight stalk is 18)

turning it on will help :D

to test voltage rotate the dial to the 20v dc setting, to test continuity, most will have a buzz/beep setting.

Right.

Watch a few videos. Although, they might as well have spoken in Flemish.

I've plugged each of the probes into the live wires.

output_zpsc0ukoljr.jpg

Switched the multimeter to 20 DC.

output_zpscndqm8mv.jpg

Gone to stalk pressed with both ignition on and off.

Should I see voltage on the display?

Or, more than likely, have I got it ar5e about face?

you need to place one probe to earth

You'll get a more realistic reading if you leave the horns connected and put the multimeter probes in the back of the terminals.

There was still nothing.

Looked at the connections. Kieran as you told me a while back. The double plug one. One of the wires were literally hanging on by a thread.

Cut off. Stripped. Re crimped.

I am getting readings now.

12 V. Who hoo.

Put it back together. Nothing.

Do the horns have to go in, in a certain order. Low one low, high one high?

The earth is connected via the bolt in lower part where the headlight goes. Feed through to the earth on the front panel.

Still no horn.

horns can go in any order, as long as they have 12v to the spade terminal, try attaching an earth directly to the body of the horn where they are bolted to the bracket.

So on the bracket........

......washer, horn, horn, earth then nut and prey?

Get someone to hold the horn switch on while you wiggle the plugs on the horns.
