Testing A Distributor

Recommended Posts

Monkey

I am trying to get a car started which was wired a little 'creatively' - so I have started from scratch.

I am happy with the wiring, and have sourced a new coil and ignition amp... but finding a new distributor is proving to be a little bit of a challenge!

Can anybody point me in the direction of a method of testing the distributor please?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers - called them this morning as it goes!

I just wanted to try and use what I have to get the car going to check for other issues, but this is the 1 part I am not 100% on whether it's good or not, as other ignition bits I have sourced new ones, this hasn't been made since 1999 by Bosch it seems, which could be the thing that kills 205s in numbers!

When sold from Pug they were 500 quid or so.

I have basically a brand new one here which was even hard to find.

Do you need the one you have sat there? ;) ;)

I know I am clutching at straws, after some researching, but needs must!

Why the obsession with fitting new parts? Personally before throwing good money after bad I would try what you have. You may be surprised. The 205 dizzy is a very simple thing there is not much that can go wrong.

The main thing is the vacuum advance was pulled and not made off when it was done, so it's been freely moving about as far as I can tell which is not entirely ideal and may not have done it any favours.

I will indeed be trying with the part I have, but just also would like to cover my bases and have an option there :)

I would defo look at a refurbishment if it eases your fears as a such.

So - distributor is working nicely, and the new test loom that was made up last night has provided a lovelly spark!

In other news the FPR Ebay special edition seems a bit dodgy, and the R1 carbs are gushing fuel out. I think it's time to get a new pump that's for cabs, and to lose the nice Facet piston jobby that's been installed.

Also it appears fuel soaked air filters are fairly combustable! Oh the joys...
