The Old "what Car?" Game

Recommended Posts

eddie bullit

I flogged my Mk5 Golf GTI as I didn't bond with it. Pretty quick, fairly well made but not as good as people make out IMO, handled ok and a nice place to be BUT just bored the T*TS of me! Did everything well but had no real personality. I'm now putting my cash into my old Pug and driving around in a Punto which I love .

I fancy a posh Fiat next..maybe a Brera or GTV..very stylish cars and a little different.

Know a guy that's bought a Brera recently and he seems to love it.

Rich, I thought you sold the 130i a good while back.

I find myself doing the opposite of budget creep when i look at the fast hatch options. I start at GTis (not into the R32, it's the wrong engine for that car), Cupra Rs, S3s etc around £11k and pretty quickly i find myself at the bottom end of the market looking at Clio's, Cooper Ss etc for half the budget and thinking they would just as much if not more fun.

As I couldn't decide what I fancy and need to have a car I've kept hold of it for the time being.

I've still done less than 3.5k in it since November. I should have just kept my Civic! It was a lot more practical too!

I did test drive an R32 but it wasn't for me.

I need to play the same game myself, I've still not fallen for my 130i.

Tough one though as I want a quick 5 door hatchback that isnt an S3,St ,MPS or R32 which limits my choices somewhat!

Buy my Forester STi :) (details in the FS section).

Please keep us posted on how it goes. I know I'm not brave enough for that.

I've decided to put my search on the back burner until at least the end of September. Tax runs out on the mx5 then and I dar say coming into November/December prices will do their usual slump.

Looking at sub 3.5k cars now and thinking of the Panda 100, they look good on paper and on reviews, has anyone driven or owned one?

My dad's 1.1 4x4 has been very reliable (touches wood)

Funnily enough I was just reading about them. We were looking at a car for my wife at the weekend and the garage had a lovely little swift sport. I'd heard they were really good so did a bit of reading. Evo ran one as a long term test car against a Panda and made many comparisons. It's worth a read.

If we get my wife's car sorted this weekend I'm going to find it very difficult not trading her trusty old Picasso against a swift or Ignis sport as a stop gap.

The Panda has a bit bouncy suspension for UK B-roads IIRC.

The swift sport is another candidate.

Oh well, I have to sell my FSTi first.
