Sorry, forgot to mention that this is an mi16 block. I am guessing this was entirely something BX or 405 related so not needed in a 205 as I dont recall seeing this on my 8v unit.

Yes, as above, it's the electronic dipstick. It's not used on 205s apart from possibly some very early models IIRC?

Early gti's had them, but later cars did not have the additional circuit in the cluster or the sender, not particularly reliable.
