Gti-6 Sandwich Plate Blanking Options

Recommended Posts

ANDYGON

Gents,

Had a quick search and couldn't find the info i'm after.

i've noticed that mine has a loop of pipework from inlet to outlet on the sandwich plate resulting in a kinked hose about to split.

What are people using to blank these? whats the thread size please?

Many thanks

Andy

Thats quite funny.

given its not plumbed into the cooling system I cant imagine what someone was thinking when they fitted that loop.

as for removal, just pop to a dealer and order the plain 27mm or so length of m20 thread from a non heat exchanger/oil cooler engine.

It could be that the oil cooler has failed internally, they can rust away and let coolant and oil mix which makes it look like the head gasket has gone. You may therefore find that the loop of pipe has oil in it.

20 mm conduit thru coupler. Cheaper than the pug part.

then remove the exchanger

Sorry just to clarify this is the oil filter sandwich plate? And it's in a 205 so the heat exchanger has been binned like most do.

I'm not sure what you mean welsh pug? Got a part number?

Cheers!!

Unscrew the adapter holding the exchanger. Replace the lot with just a 20MM thread of which the filter screws too.

This is what you've got at the moment. The sandwich plate (10) is screwed to the block with a hollow bolt (2), and the filter screws onto the end of the bolt.

This is what engines without the sandwich plate have. There's a small threaded piece (13) that screws into the block, and the filter goes directly onto that.

The threaded piece is part number 1103 54, and is £6.53.

Ah yeah. Re read the replies. Makes sense now!!

Basically take it off and and threaded tube on in place.

Thanks!

Ryan that's a great diagram! I used a Clio 182 oil filter (much smaller) to give more clearance against the rad especially since I lowered it on brackets.
