Tom Fenton 1,536 Posted June 24, 2014 For a durable coating you really want something that is 2 pack e.g. has a hardener in it. The main hazard to health from this comes from inhaling the fine overspray. So one way around this is to mix up then brush it on to the car. You still should wear a decent mask, but at least you don't get the airbourne spray everywhere. I have an air fed mask so I sprayed it on.
Juttie205 123 2 Cars Posted June 24, 2014 Thats what I thought trouble is air fed masks are so expensive and would only need one for doing underside of car.
nick205 12 5 Cars Posted June 24, 2014 Worth paying someone to do it for you?
Lowercase 56 Posted June 24, 2014 just brushing it on will be a lot easier and save yourself a lot of mess. you'll have stonechipped it so i wouldnt get too precious about the finish. just get it on there nice and thick.
Juttie205 123 2 Cars Posted June 24, 2014 Might sound strange dont want a brush finish on my car
Lowercase 56 Posted June 24, 2014 over a stone chip finish you wont be able to really tell, 2k paint is great stuff, kind of gels together and goes glassy. i can understand though, i share your OCD levels!
205wrc 16 Posted June 27, 2014 Forget stonechip. If it cracks and starts to peel, water will get inside it and get trapped. One of the best stuff on the market is this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/U-pol-Raptor-Tintable-Tough-Urethene-Coating-Truck-Bed-Liner-Kit-Trailers-/110785795320 It's much stronger than stonechip, and tintable to the colour of your car. A lot of road rally cars are using this now as it's much harder wearing than stonechip or Hammerite
Juttie205 123 2 Cars Posted June 27, 2014 Does look like a good product where would I get the tint from?
Tom Fenton 1,536 Posted June 27, 2014 Its 2 pack so you are back to needing the air fed mask!!
Juttie205 123 2 Cars Posted June 27, 2014 All video's of people using it are not using air fed masks so now confused.
205wrc 16 Posted June 30, 2014 You'd be able to get the tint from a local motor factors, body shop, or paint suppliers. Everyone that I know who have used it do not use air fed masks, as it's basically stonechip / underseal
stu8v 68 1 Cars Posted June 30, 2014 It will be carcinogenic. Your call most 2pack stuff is. Use a mask.
Tom Fenton 1,536 Posted June 30, 2014 Generally if you put a catalyst (hardener) in then you need an air fed mask.
