Exhaust Recommendation

Recommended Posts

unariciflocos

I have a straight through 2 box system with 2.25 inch pipe which is quite loud and would like to turn in back into a civilised road going vehicle, once so that I don't attract the attention of the Polizei and second so that I can hear myself think while driving the car. Just so you understand how loud it is, you can feel the pulses out the exaust 2 3 meters back.

The options I've been pondering:

1. brand new full standard exhaust front to end

2. standard backbox on the current system

I don't want to compromise performance and I don't want it quiet as a mouse, just a more civilised sound up to maybe 3 -4 k rpm.

Opinions? Other options?

i had a "silent" free flowing system built by long life, it's very good, stainless and quiet except on full chat... so there are good garage built ones out there too.

I've got the same with a standard Ph2 back box.

I've never heard it on the road as the car is in bits, but what I have heard of it I like.

When ticking over, you know there's something different about the car.... It sounds big, but not loud.

Up to 4-5k it sounds a tad sporty.... But not too loud.

After that it lets rip a nice scream!

Ideal for in and around town

What's your engine specs? I made my own exhaust for a standard j4rs that consisted of a sportex centre box and a standard ph2 back box with the the tip cut off and replaced with a 2" outward rolled stainless item. Like justin I now run a 2 1/4" longlife jobby with my supercharger however I decimated the wedding in the centre box so ensure they use the highest spec stuff. They were good enough to replace it after some prodding.

Standard 1.9 Mi16 for now with 11:1 compression. Just ordered a standard replacement Bosal back box and I'll go from there.

I'm having second thoughts about putting the cam and bodies back on just in case a mobile TuV check decides to do an in trafic inspection. And I also want to drive to Switzerland and those guys are even more anal.

Leave the rest alone and just decrease the tailpipe diameter on the back box and it'll quiet down ..

Well my standard GTI replacement Bosal back box arrived for 45 Euros delivered and also bought an exhaust repairt kit on ebay so that I can match the box to my 57 mm line.

I'll see by the end of the week if it's quite enough to give me confidence to drive it on the street.
