8V Ecu Multi-Plug/loom Removal

Recommended Posts

dealing with some electrical aspects at the moment and need some help/advice please.... to try and cut a long story short, I have a white 1.6 rally car with no engine, don't have so much time on it at the moment as I'm trying to collect together parts for it, as far as inspected so far it has the left hand side loom or what looks like most of it along the n/s inner wing etc... but no central loom coming through the access in the bulkhead... car also has no ECU, so hence no multi-plug etc, etc... the fuse box looks intact with all it's wiring but can't fully open the glovebox due to the cage leg, will make cut out when time comes. The rest of the car's wiring looks okay, still has the original dash, clocks etc, looks like it's just been the ECU and that part of the loom that has been changed, then removed, was formerly running an 8v turbo with previous owner.

Good news being I have a 1.6 donor car - removed the ECU yesterday, simple enough, 3 x 6mm brass coloured nuts and disconnected the multi-plug, the plug and loom is routed up and over the ECU fixing plate under the dash... I need to trace this loom back and basically remove it all for what is missing on the rally car... thanks to Grim Badger for his ECU wiring diagram, that has helped me understand the ECU and it's layout better. Trouble is I can't see how to remove this fixing plate? how much of the dash board do I need to remove to get access to it? clocks, steering cowling, etc and central dash are mostly removed now, the main dash mouldings are still in place. Any tips/info appreciated.

The plate is held in place by some barbed washers and also sits under one of the dashboard securing studs, the loom is clipped to the top of the steering column bracket, there are two studs which have 10mm nuts in the scuttle panel, one central 10mm bolt behind the triangle trim insert and a few more 10mm nuts and bolts either side underneath, slacken these and you can pull the dash up enough to extract the loom and ecu bracket.

Depending on age you would probably have the two brown plugs near the lower column/heater box, where the engine loom connects to the dashboard loom.

Thanks min, yip, can see the barbed washers, I'll get on with that... the 2 brown plugs are what I was hoping for, I found small piece of custom loom in a box in the back of the rally car that had 2 brown connectors on it, these were big round type connectors though (apparently turbo? from another Peugeot) nonetheless it's all knowledge and that's what I need right now regarding the loom, it's starting to make more sense now though, thanks...
